Scottish Youth Parliament Elections 2015

2 March 2015

As of this morning, voting is underway for the Scottish Youth Parliament elections, please publicise any way that you can to young people eligible to vote (aged 12-25). The voting period lasts until Friday 13th March.

The candidate details for all areas can be found here:

http://www.syp.org.uk/elections-2015-W21page-515-

In Edinburgh there are 3 uncontested constituencies (South, Pentlands and West) and 3 contested constituencies (Easter, Central and Northern and Leith).

Young people can vote for candidates in any one constituency using the ‘single transferrable vote system. Voting is online and can be accessed at this direct link:

Young people need their Young Scot number to vote, or they can get a temporary number from  their school, library or community centre. Young people can vote via any web device, so there is no need to provide a ‘polling booth’ or similar – but if you wanted to make a computer or tablet available as a polling station, even for just a little while, that would be appreciated.

EYCP Mull Residential 2014

15 October 2014

12-15 Mull

EYCP recently travelled to Mull to experience an action packed residential, this was with Hebridean Pursuits and their charitable trust The Roses Project

The trip this year was a fantastic opportunity for 12 young people to travel to the Island of Mull and explore many of its outdoor opportunities. The activities included Coasteering, Rock Climbing, ‘Munro-bagging’ and Plunge pooling. There was also plenty of time for the young people to relax and have time to themselves. The weather helped as it was glorious sunshine for the whole 5 days!

On a more serious note the residential also gave workers and the young people time to get to know each other. As a result it lets us deliver a more relevant programme during our normal groups thhroughout the year. As a result of this residential we have identified several issues that were highlighted within the trip. These issues may have taken 6 months to surface during group time, but due to the team spirit and 'everyone together' ethos of the trip these issues can be tackled earlier and within weeks of identification.

Some quotes from the young people:

“I want to climb Everest” (young person after climbing Ben More)

“I feel so relaxed and healthier than last week”

“I can’t believe I swam in the sea and jumped off a rock”

All the young carers said they would return to Mull if they had the chance.
